Learn a little. See it work. Try it yourself. Get useful feedback.

One task, four small steps

  1. Understand. Learn just enough to recognize the task.
  2. See an example. Follow a completed piece of work and its reasoning.
  3. Try it. Make a choice or create a small record.
  4. Check understanding. Explain the decision, get feedback and retry.

This approach draws on research into worked examples, learner-paced segments and retrieval practice. Shorter screens reduce competing material; they do not replace meaningful practice. Read the evidence and its limits.

For facilitators

  1. Ask a learner what they are trying to do before naming a module.
  2. Demonstrate one complete example, explaining why each choice matters.
  3. Let the learner attempt a similar task before giving the answer.
  4. Give feedback about the decision, then invite a retry.
  5. Return to the task in a later session and use a different example.

Space sessions around the team’s work. The best interval depends on what people need to remember and for how long; there is no universal “perfect” lesson length.

How University can develop

This first version provides self-paced practice and facilitator materials. A future team programme can add reviewed project assignments, mentor feedback and delayed skill checks. Shared enrolment, manager dashboards and formal credentials would need a separate learning system and an agreed assessment process.

What does course completion mean today?

A learner has passed the tutorial’s practice tasks and knowledge checks. It does not establish workplace competence or approve an engineering project. Progress is saved in their browser and can be downloaded for discussion.
